Kenneth Aligata
President
Kenneth Aligata brings to his new role as a CCAR Board President a great sense of humor and 16 years in recovery. He states that he has sustained his personal recovery through his program, a path of good friendships and the love and commitment of his family. An optician, musician and sometimes magician (as a single dad of two teenage daughters), Ken says that his recovery has redefined every aspect and relationship in his life. Ken spends a chunk of his free time giving back to the community as the percussionist for "Selfish Steam". "Recovery music is a true form of recovery advocacy. It is about positively affecting the lives of others and making time for what matters."

Tony Taschner
Vice President
I have enjoyed continuous recovery beginning in May 1978. One of the main reasons for my continued recovery is a very strong desire to return what I have been given to my community. Currently, I am serving on the Corporate Board of Directors of St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center and on the Alcoholic and Drug Recovery Centers Board, as the Vice-chairperson. I serve on the State Board of Directors for the Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. I recently completed a four year term as a Trustee/Director on a United States / Canadian Board, for a large 12 Step Organization.
I was employed by The Hartford Financial Services for 30 years, as an Assistant Vice President in Data Management. I retired in April of 2000.
I remain involved with mentoring people, in the areas of addiction prevention and mental health, as it pertains to twelve step programs. This occupies a great deal of my own free time and is very rewarding - seeing an individual reach out for help and begin to grow.
I am an avid golfer, read, walk and enjoy my three lovely granddaughters. My wife and I love to travel.

Melanie Gass
Treasurer

Hi! My name is Melanie Gass and I am a newly elected board member and treasurer.
I hold a B.S. degree in Business Economics with a concentration in Finance from Albertus Magnus College. My career background includes over 10 years of general business experience in consumer products including sales and marketing, and 5 years of finance. I've held key positions in smaller, million dollar businesses, and for the past 4 years have worked for a multi-billion dollar company. I've reported and presented results to executive management and understand the financial aspects of both smaller and larger companies. My expertise is held mainly in strategic planning, budgeting/forecasting, and cost savings.
Success of an organization to me includes the ability to work well with one another, and being able to communicate openly without fearing the outcome. I'm excited to be a part of CCAR because my findings thus far include both of these measures for success.
I will serve CCAR to the best of my ability and help establish and maintain integrity of this establishment as we move forward. My decisions will be based on what's best for this business, and ensure these decisions align with the vision and strategic plan.
Thanks for putting your trust in me. I look forward to our journey together and serving CCAR.

Roberto Garcia

Hi, I am Roberto Garcia a member of CCAR and a Behavioral Health Specialist from the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services. I have been involved in the mental health and addictions field since 1976. I have been a gang mediator, a coordinator of training, the state coordinator for the ARROWS (AIDS Risk Reduction Outreach Workers) program, a member of CSAT Recovering Community Planning Board, and most recently I was named the DMHAS employee of the year.
I live in the community which I serve, I identify myself as a grass-roots leader, and I believe that grass-roots leaders are amply qualified to lead a war against poverty, substance abuse, violence and other social ills that have become part of our communities. I also believe that grass-roots leaders should live in the communities and should constantly be on call. We don’t “parachute in” during business hours and then leave. I believe that the root causes of social pathologies are ultimately spiritual in nature and rehabilitation is temporary unless the heart and soul is transformed.
