of Connecticut

His Excellency JOHN G. ROWLAND, Governor: an
Official
Statement
WHEREAS,
September has been designated as National Alcohol and Drug
Recovery Month by the U. S. Department of Health and Human
Services, Center for Substance Abuse Treatment; and
WHEREAS,
the Recovery Month effort aims to promote the societal benefits
of substance abuse treatment, the contributions of treatment
providers, and the message that recovery from all forms of
substance abuse is possible; and
WHEREAS,
addiction is a health care issue that, either directly or indirectly,
affects all of Connecticut's citizens, and as a result, this
Administration has actively sought to promote recovery by creating
the Governor's Blue Ribbon Task Force on Substance Abuse and
the Connecticut Alcohol and Drug Policy Council; and
WHEREAS,
the Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery is committed
to putting a positive face on recovery and maintains the vision
that "Society sees addiction treatment and recovery as
a heroic and positive effort by the year 2005"; and
WHEREAS,
two years ago the Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery
held its first "Recovery Walk", attended by 700 people,
and last September more than 2000 people participated in the
Walk; and
WHEREAS,
the Connecticut Community for Addiction recovery is continuing
to promote its vision by holding its third annual Recovery
Walk on Sunday, September 22, 2002 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at
Bushnell Park in Hartford;
THEREFORE,
I, John G. Rowland, Governor of the State of Connecticut, do
hereby declare September 2002 to be
National
Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month
in the State
of Connecticut and furthermore that September 22, 2002 shall
be the official State Day to
Put
a Positive Face on Recovery.
